Michael Rooplal

Michael Rooplal is an Attorney-at-Law and Head of Omega Chambers, where he has practised
since 2009. He has appeared before a wide range of courts and tribunals—including the High
Court, Industrial Court, Environmental Commission, Court of Appeal, and the Judicial Committee
of the Privy Council—and has experience across criminal, civil, constitutional, commercial,
environmental, industrial relations, and probate matters.
He has served as Counsel in several nationally significant matters, including Trinidad and
Tobago’s first application to deem an individual a terrorist under the Anti-Terrorism Act, the
Constitution Reform Commission (2015), the Commission of Enquiry into CLICO, and a
prosecution arising from the 1990 Coup Commission of Enquiry. His portfolio includes
representation of the Central Authority Unit in successful extraditions and a number of landmark
constitutional and appellate cases.
Mr. Rooplal is also deeply involved in corporate leadership, serving as a Director across several
companies in Trinidad and Guyana and as a Director of the South Cancer Support Group. He is a
past President of the Assembly of Southern Lawyers and an active member of the Commonwealth
Lawyers Association and the Law Association of Trinidad and Tobago. He lectures part-time at
the University of the West Indies, Faculty of Law.
