Every celebration and special occasion are commemorated by the attractive, eye-catching light show which contrast the darkness of the sky. Whether it be a wedding or holiday like New Years and Diwali you can count on a firework show to illuminate the soberness of night. Though majority of us, human beings, describe these occasional colourful lights in a positive way, they can also be seen as that of a detrimental nature.
Fireworks might be appealing to view but aid in the pollution of our planet, earth. The metallic compound that is released when a firework explodes can be toxic to living things such as humans and animals.
Animals are deeply affected as they can become terrified leading them to flee from their owners and habitat ending up inevitably lost and alone. In worse case scenarios the noise pollution caused by the deafening booms can stress them out to the point where they can suffer devastating or fatal health problems.
Not only performing in a way which promotes air pollution that can cause those with medical conditions such as asthma to receive a triggered attack or noise pollution causing humans to stimulate a ptsd episode, fireworks also result in water pollution in its aftermath. This causes wildlife to ingest and perish after they consume the firework debris in their contaminated drinking water. Fireworks cause property damage and multiple injuries to occur.
Noticing how fireworks can be linked to promoting climate change which is negatively affecting our planets health and humans and animals’ physical well-being, how can we still allow such events to occur?
Fireworks are used in religious ceremonies such as to honour the Hindu holiday of Diwali. They are a staple for celebrating holidays around the world. In China it is used during the spring festival or Chinese New Year while in the United States for their independence, Fourth of July festivities.
Fireworks have many disadvantages with few advantages, the real question is why these harmful fireworks are still lit around the world when there are safer more ecofriendly ways such as laser lights.
