Diwali is the celebration of light; good over evil. Interestingly, Diwali also marks the beginning of the fiscal year in India.
Diwali in 2022 was celebrated between the 22nd and 26th October. To commemorate this special occasion, many people, particularly those of the Hindu faith, usually wear kurtas (male) and sarees (female).
The main story of Diwali is the one involving the return of Lord Rama and Sita to the kingdom of Ayodhya with the help of Lord Hanuman. Upon their arrival, they were greeted by streets adorned with deyas. These are small clay pots that are lit around the time of Diwali to recognise this event.
Diwali is celebrated over 5 days. On the third day, the major celebrations take place. This occasion is significant to all Hindus and many other people around the world and we here at The Oxbridge International School have embraced this and will recognise the significance of Diwali over these 5 days.
